The Wilton track and field teams had mixed results this week, as the boys fell to Fairfield Ludlowe in Monday’s season opener and the Wilton girls pulled out a close win over Ludlowe on Thursday.
Girls
The Wilton High girls track and field team edged out Ludlowe on Thursday, 75-70, to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Warriors were led by double winners Jillian Lauricella, Covadonga Perez Pelaez and Izzy Meltzer.
Lauricella took first place in the 100 meters (13.99) and 200 meters (28.51), while Perez Pelaez won both the discus (73’8”) and shot put (34’0”). Meltzer was the winner in both the triple jump (27’9.5”) and pole vault (6’6”).
Isabel Saltzman was first in the 100-meter hurdles (19.23) and third in the triple jump (27’2”).
Mary Lynch won the 1600 meters (5:34.52) and took third in the 3200 (12:10.68).
Other Wilton winners were Sophia Kaplan in the 300-meter hurdles (52.2) and Lacey Eller in the long jump (14’8.25”).
Brady Faria scored in three events, finishing second in the shot put (32’5.5”) and third in both the javelin (77’10”) and discus (60’8”).
Meri Santomero placed second in the high jump (4’8”) and was third in the 300-meter hurdles (55.7).
Two other Warriors turned in second-place finishes. Elizabeth Healy was second in the 800 meters (2:32.65) and Bria Albanese took second in the 100 meters (14.18).
Tatum Kelly was third in both the 100 meters (14.2) and 200 meters (29.48).
Also scoring points for Wilton with third-place finishes were Nina Mellin in the 1600 meters (5:38.19), Ashley Vitarelli in the 400 meters (1:06.17), Annie Rava in the pole vault (6’0”) and Lily Kealy in the 200 meters (29.48).
Boys
Aaron Breene was a double winner, and Joe McFadden won one event, to highlight the Wilton High boys track and field first meet of the season on Monday at home.
The Warriors lost the meet to Ludlowe by the score of 114 to 23. The Falcons took first place in 13 of 16 events, including a sweep of the top three places in nine events.
Breene captured first in the 400 meters (55.1) and 3200 meters (10:14.22) to account for 10 of Wilton’s 23 points.
McFadden was first in the javelin with a throw of 117’3”.
Second-place finishes were turned in by Justin Hoelzl in the 3200 (10:16.84) and Andrew Nisco in the triple jump (32’4.5”).
Wilton’s other two points came by third-places finishes by Thomas Kedzierski in the javelin (112’1”) and Benjamin Grass in the high jump (5’0”).
Brandon Hawk placed fourth in both the discus (84’10”) and shot put (32’1”), with other fourth-place finishes by Sean Cunningham in the 1600 (5:40.9), Hoelzl in the 400 (57.0), Flynn Crowther in the 800 (2:22.78) and Jonah Hirsch in the high jump (4’10”).
Richard Dineen placed fifth in both the 110-meter hurdles (22.67) and 300-meter hurdles (53.5).
Kevin Connolly finished fifth in the 100 meters (12.75) and Brendan Quinlan was fifth in the javelin (106’8”).
