Constance R. Ongley on her wedding day
Constance R. (Danneberg) Ongley died at home at 5:15 a.m. on March 23, 2016, with her husband at her side.
Constance grew up in Sturgis, Mich., and graduated from Western Michigan University. She earned a doctorate in education from Columbia University and worked in the Westport school system for many years as a psychologist and administrator. She advocated for generations of special education students, helping them get the services they needed.
Constance was the center of her family’s orbit. She is survived by George Ongley, her husband of 65-plus years; children Steven (Laurie) Ongley Sr., Lisa (Peter) Gardner; Loren (Guy III) Neill, son-in-law Bill Todd-Brown; grandchildren Kathe Todd-Brown (Dan Cicio), Jesica Todd-Brown (Nils Bell), Margaret (Max) King, Steven Ongley Jr., Jennifer Ongley, Kate (Graham) Burt, Thomas Gardner (Ashley Ball), James (Meghan) Gardner, Guy Neill IV and Geoffrey Neill; and great-grandchildren Eleanor Gardner, Freyja Todd-Bell and Juliet King. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lois Ongley.
Family and friends will gather at the family home to remember Connie on Saturday, April 2, between 2 and 5 p.m. Those wishing to make a memorial donation may contribute to their favorite charity.
