Next Thursday, March 10, is the third annual Fairfield County’s Giving Day. This 24-hour online fund-raising competition lets the Wilton community, and every other community in the county, donate to the nonprofit organizations that mean the most to them. Last year, 13,161 people donated more than $1 million.
So far, there are a dozen Wilton organizations registered to receive donations. In no particular order, they are:
- Animals in Distress
- Music on the Hill
- Wilton Playshop
- Wilton Singers
- A Better Chance
- Friends of Ambler Farm
- Friends of the Norwalk River Valley Trail
- Woodcock Nature Center
- Stay at Home in Wilton
- Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County
- Circle of Care
- Connecticut Appleseed Center for Law and Justice
Here’s how it works. Anyone may donate via credit card from 12 a.m. March 10 to 11:59 p.m. The minimum donation is $10, and there is no maximum donation. All donations are tax-deductible.
While each nonprofit will benefit from each donation, a few will win prizes that most certainly will greatly boost their income. The charity that receives the most unique donors will win a prize of $20,000. The second-place prize is $10,000.
The charity that has the most dollars raised at the end of giving on March 10 will win an additional $20,000. The second-place prize is $10,000.
There are other prizes for the organizations with the most unique donors during the following hours :
- $2,000 — 6 to 7 a.m. ($1,000 to a nonprofit participating in its first Giving Day, $1,000 to a returning nonprofit)
- $1,000 — 9 to 10 a.m.
- $2,500 — noon to 1
- $2,000 — 3 to 4 p.m. ($1,000 to a nonprofit participating in its first Giving Day, $1,000 to a returning nonprofit).
The organization that raises the most money between 7 and 8 p.m. will win $5,000, from 10 to 11:59 p.m., $2,500.
Fairfield County’s Giving Day is hosted by Fairfield County’s Community Foundation with lead sponsor Bank of America.
This is a wonderful opportunity to support the Wilton nonprofit that is most important to you. It is an easy way to support more than one organization.
Please be generous. These organizations all do great work. Some of them are here every day for you. Please be there for them on Thursday, March 10.
