In the first six weeks of the Solarize Wilton campaign, 158 Wilton homeowners have expressed interest in finding out if their home is a good candidate for solar energy. Sixteen have signed contracts for a combined amount of 171 kW of solar energy. That will offset the equivalent of 130 tons of CO2 per year — the equivalent of eliminating 303 barrels of oil per year or taking 26 cars off the road per year, according to a press release from the Wilton Energy Commission.

One Wilton resident, who had solar panels installed on her home before the Solarize Wilton program was introduced, said she has saved approximately $1,440 in energy costs in the first year. Another homeowner, who has been using solar energy since 2011, said her panels have generated 14,956kW.

Workshops to introduce the program will continue this month and next.  At these workshops, residents can learn about this state- and town-sponsored program, which offers deep discounts and energy savings. Town officials selected Ross Solar Group as its official solar installer, who offers significant discounts in exchange for outreach and education provided by the town. Wilton residents must sign a contract by May 18, 2016  to qualify for Solarize Wilton pricing.

Upcoming workshops will take place:

  • Tuesday, March 8, 10-11:30 a.m., in the Wilton Library Brubeck Room, 137 Old Ridgefield Road.
  • Wednesday, March 16, 7-9 p.m.. at Riverbrook Regional YMCA, 404 Danbury Road.
  • Monday, April 4; 1:30-3 p.m., Wilton Senior Center Lounge, 180 School Road.
  • Thursday, April 7; 7-9 p.m., Wilton High School Little Theater, 395 Danbury Road.

Residents can sign up for a free solar home assessment or find out more information about Solarize Wilton, including upcoming workshops, by visiting solarizect.com/Wilton.
