The Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra will present its winter concert on Sunday, March 6, at 3 p.m. in the Clune Center at Wilton High School. As part of the afternoon of music, there will be  a silent auction fund-raiser and reception.

The concert will feature performances by the three WCYO ensembles, comprised of 90 young musicians from 12 towns in Connecticut and New York. Among those performing will be Wilton students Johnny Shiller on cello, Jason Garrelick on trombone, Fiona O’Halloran on trumpet, Krithika Natarajan on violin, and Vignesh Subramanian on violin.

The Symphony Orchestra will perform the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, the overture from Berlioz’ Roman Carnival, as well as selections from Slavonic Dances, by Antonin Dvorak.

The String Ensemble will open the concert with classical pieces by Brahms and Johann Strauss, followed by the Wind Ensemble presenting Heroes Near and Far by Richard Saucedo.

All three ensembles will join together in a closing performance of Stravinsky’s Berceuse and Finale from The Firebird.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and children under 12, and will be available at the door on the day of the event.

The String Ensemble and Wind Ensemble will perform on Saturday, June 4, at Scotts Ridge Middle School in Ridgefield, and the Symphony Orchestra will present a concert on Sunday, June 5, at the WCSU Visual and Performing Arts Center in Danbury.
