A Danbury man stopped for driving erratically on the afternoon of Dec. 20 was found in possession of 0.9 grams of suspected cocaine.

The Norwalk Police Department called Wilton’s agency around 3:30 p.m. to report a 1998 Ford Ranger swerving north up Route 7 out of its jurisdiction.

Responding, a Wilton patrol saw the Ford near New Street, swerving back and forth over the shoulder and the double-yellow lines.

A stop was made and the driver of the Ford, Carlos Ayala, 51, of 61 Westville Avenue, Danbury, was administered a field sobriety test. He did not perform the test to standard and was arrested for DUI.

While searching the car after Ayala was taken into custody, police found “three plastic bags” of suspected cocaine, a collective amount totaling approximately 0.9 grams.

Ultimately, Ayala was charged with his second offense of DUI, illegal possession of narcotics, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, driving without insurance, and failure to drive in the proper lane.

A $5,000 bond was placed on Ayala, which he was unable to post. He was arraigned at Norwalk Superior Court on Dec. 21.
