Lemons by Dawn Dahl

Lemons by Dawn Dahl

Wilton artist Dawn Dahl’s oil painting Lemons has been awarded second place in the Faber Birren National Color Award Show at the Stamford Art Association.

The show will open with a reception Sunday, Oct. 4, from 4 to 5, and run
through Nov. 5.

When asked about her entry, Dahl told The Bulletin “Faber Birren, a Stamford resident, was a nationally known expert on color and color theory. As the intense color of lemons was what originally inspired my painting, it seemed natural to submit it [to the show.]

“Every painting is an exploration. Here I learned that more than that striking yellow was necessary. It’s the harmonic balance of blues and reds that really makes the lemon sing.

“At the time I was painting Lemons, my husband and I ate many of my ‘models’ as they aged. Lemonade, four different variations on lemon chicken, veal piccata, lemon pudding, lemon bars, and so on, were all on the menu during the process. Thankfully, our lemon consumption has decreased considerably since then” although she was planning to make a lemon meringue pie for a party earlier
this month.

The art association gallery is at 39 Franklin Street. Hours are Thursday through Sunday from noon to 3. Information: 203-325-1139 orstamfordartassociation.org.
