A verbal altercation between two boys over a basketball game led to one teen putting his hands around the neck of another on Thursday, June 11, at the YMCA.
The assailant, 15, and the victim, 14, were arguing when, according to police, one jumped on the other’s back and choked him to the point where he had trouble breathing.
An ambulance was called but he refused transport to the hospital.
The parents of the 14-year-old later went to police headquarters to file a complaint.
The assailant was charged with strangulation in the third degree and breach of peace second degree and is to report to juvenile court June 23.
