Janet M. Davis
Janet M. Davis, long-time resident of Wilton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 17, surrounded by her loving family. She was 85.
Born on Jan. 19, 1929, in Brooklyn N.Y., she was the daughter of David Sandberg and Mildred (Wedell) Sandberg, who raised their four children in South Ozone Park, N.Y.
After graduating from John Adams High School, Janet worked in Manhattan, briefly at Wannamaker’s department store, and then as a secretary at Continental Insurance Companies, where she met Robert (Bob) Davis. They married in 1948. After starting out in Queens, they moved to Wantagh, N.Y., where they started their family with two sons. In 1964, they moved to Wilton and had a daughter.
Janet thoroughly enjoyed being a wife, mother, and all things related to her family and home. She was always decorating, gardening and baking and excelled in all kinds of sewing, having learned at a young age from her grandmother. She was a talented hostess, arranging dinner parties for friends, family gatherings, and holidays, and enjoyed playing all kinds of music on the piano, especially church hymns. She also loved to travel. Tagging along on Bob’s business trips was a favorite delight, as was taking family road trips to Vermont or Florida (and all points in between). For many years, she was active with the Villagers, and the Gourmet Group, and volunteered with Bob at the Zion’s Hill United Methodist Church Strawberry Festival and Rummage Sale.
After being widowed, Janet moved to Newtown in 2007. She returned to Wilton, living at The Greens at Cannondale, in 2012.
Aside from her husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Edward Sandberg, of Floral Park, NY. She is survived by her son, Robert, Jr., and his wife, Patty, of Georgetown, Conn.; son, Warren, and his wife, Dee, of Newtown, Conn.; and daughter, Jennifer, of Bethel, Conn. She is also survived by her sister, Diana Bruu, of Massapequa Park, N.Y., and her brother, Kenneth Sandberg, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., as well as several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
