Margery (Botts) Anderson, 86, of Naples Fla. and Avon, Conn., beloved wife of 63 years to Charles E. “Chuck” Anderson, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.
Daughter of the late Thomas E. and Catherine I. (Steel) Botts, she was born in Detroit and raised in Grosse Pointe, Mich. An accomplished pianist and musician, she graduated with a degree in music from Whitman College (Walla Walla, Wash.), where she met Chuck.
She taught music in the public schools of Jesup, Ga. before moving to Wilton in 1963 with Chuck and their three children. She also participated in many community theaters and other performance venues, both in Georgia and Connecticut. She directed the children’s choir at St. Matthew’s Church in Wilton and was musical director or accompanist for numerous shows at the Wilton Student Summer Playshop and in nearby Weston and New Canaan, inspiring many young musicians with her talent, kindness, and encouragement.
Besides her husband Charles, she leaves a son, Thomas E. Anderson and his wife Cristine of Baton Rouge, La.; two daughters, Joanne E. Anderson and her partner Jerald G. Shepherd of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Patricia A. Colburn and her husband Michael of Simsbury; and three grandchildren Kathleen Colburn, Andrew Colburn, and Cory Laughlin.
The family would like to recognize and offer special thanks to the staff at St. Francis Hospital and at the Farmington Valley VNA who provided such kind and thoughtful care.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, 1 p.m., at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 36 New Canaan Road, Wilton, Conn. The Rev. Roger O. Douglas will officiate.
There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
