Wilton Y gymnasts excel at Harvest Invitational

The Wilton Y gymnastics team is proving once again that it will be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming season, after capturing several age group championships at the fifth Annual Harvest Invitational in Trumbull on Nov. 23.

Although the 22 Wilton gymnasts competing represented only a small portion of the roster, the team came home with five all-around champions, two first-place team awards, and many other honors.

Wilton’s Level 3 girls had two all-around champions, Kaylie Berghaus and Rachel Calabrese. Sienna Morris took second place in the all-around, with first places on beam (9.1) and vault, and second places on floor (9.0) and bars.

Berghaus’s all-around first place was earned in the 10-year old age group, with first-place finishes on beam (9.3), bars (9.0) and floor. Gillian Lipsky took fourth in the all-around, with third-place finishes on bars and floor, and fourth places on beam (9.05) and vault.

Calabrese’s all-around first place was earned in the 11-over age group, with first places on floor (9.1), beam (9.1) and bars, and second place on vault.

Lindsey Jarrett took second place in the all-around, with first place on vault (9.0), second place on beam and floor (both 9.0), and third place on bars.

Together, the Level 3 girls brought home the second-place team trophy for Wilton.

In Level 4, Jessica Wu finished fifth in the all-around with a fourth place on bars, and high scores on beam (9.1) and floor (9.0). Emily D’Onofrio took third place on bars.

In the next age division, Peyton Gildersleeve finished third in the all-around, with a first place on bars (9.05), second place on floor (9.25), and fifth place on beam (9.15). Nicole Beecher garnered third place on floor (9.1), and Dillon Loud took third on bars. As a team, Wilton’s Level 4 squad finished third.

Wilton had a Level 5 all-around champion in Kate Ginsburg. She also finished first on floor (9.3), second on bars, and third on beam. In the same age division, Alyssa Jarrett won first place for bars, and took third for floor and all-around. Libby Hinshaw’s vault was her strongest event.

In a younger Level 5 age division, Lilly Byrnes finished fifth in the all-around, with a first place on floor (9.4), and fourth places on beam (9.2) and vault. The Level 5 team finished in third place.

Marra Woodring was the Level 6 all-around champion for her age group. She also took first place on bars (9.05), second on beam, and fourth on floor (9.0) and vault. Catie Jones took fourth in the all-around, with first place on floor (9.3) and fifth on bars. In the older age group, Casey Redcay had second-place finishes in the all-around and every individual event.

Wilton’s Level 6 squad brought home the first-place team trophy.

Wilton’s Level 7 squad also won first place. Individually, Sam Huffman finished second in the all-around, with a first-place finish on bars, third places on vault (9.0) and beam, and fourth place on floor. Alessandra Uriarte finished third in the all-around, and took second on vault (9.1) and beam, third on bars, and fifth on floor. Izzy Meltzer finished fifth in the all-around, winning first place for her floor routine (9.3), third for vault (9.0), and fifth for beam. Morgan Leddy took third place on floor and fourth place on bars.

Lizzie Berta, Wilton’s only Level 8 competitor of the day, was the all-around champion. She also took first place on bars and vault, second on beam, and third on floor.
