To the Editors:

We are Singularity Technology, Wilton Library’s robotics team. The team consists of 10 students in grades 8-11 and is part of an international organization called FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). FIRST’s mission is to “inspire young people to be science and technology leaders.” Each year, we participate in the FIRST Tech Challenge, an annual competition that involves building and programming a robot to compete against other teams in a sports-style tournament.

In order to raise money for this costly competition, we host an annual hard drive destruction fund-raiser at Wilton Library. People can bring in old computers, and for $20 per computer, we remove and destroy their hard drives, thus permanently erasing sensitive information.

This year’s fund-raiser took place on Nov. 1, and we had great success for the second year in a row. We would like to thank everyone who brought in hard drives for supporting the team. Additionally, we would like to thank our loyal sponsors for their donations: Wilton Library, Gregory and Adams, JetBlue, Templar Group, Wilton Hardware, Wilton Country Homes, DeLuca Hardware, Woodhouse Academy, Smile Art LLC, Fairfield County Bank, Hoffman Landscapes, Dr. Gregory Sanford, the Hull family and the Hoch family. Finally, we would like to thank Wilton Library for offering its facilities to hold this event.

If you would like to make a donation to the team, please contact us at singultech@gmail.com or call Susan Lauricella, Wilton Library’s head of teen services, at 203-762-3950, ext. 243. Thank you very much!
