The Wilton Family YMCA was one of four area Ys to receive a donation of $1,000 from SpinOdyssey’s 15th annual indoor cycling fund-raiser, held earlier this year in Stamford.
The donation, which will support the Y’s exercise programs for cancer survivors, was given after wellness professionals and team members from the Y participated in the event, which raised more than $201,000 to benefit breast cancer research. Approximately 350 riders from Fairfield County participated.
One of the largest indoor cycling charity events in the United States, SpinOdyssey has raised more than $4 million for the American Cancer Society’s research and support services for patients and their families. Registration fees and merchandise sales from the local event benefit Norwalk Hospital’s Whittingham Cancer Center and Smilow Family Breast Health Center.
The Wilton Family Y offers a Livestrong Cancer Rehab program to anyone who is at any stage of cancer treatment, which includes a free three-month membership at the Y and a series of personal training sessions with certified staff in the Y’s Fitness Center.
