The community’s spotlight will be on Wilton veterans Tuesday, Nov. 11, as American Legion Post 86 honors their service with its annual Veterans Day Celebration.

The event, which occurs every Veterans Day, will run from 10:15 to 11 a.m. and begins at the Wilton Veterans Memorial near the gazebo in Wilton Center.

Celebrations will include a procession to the Veterans Memorial Green, a color guard, a bagpiper, speakers, and the playing of taps, a press release from Post 86 said last week.

The day is dedicated to “bringing the community together to commemorate Veterans Day in honor of those who have served and currently serve in the United States Armed Forces,” the press release said.

Honor cards

Homes for the Brave, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, is organizing a Veterans Day fund-raiser to help provide safe housing, vocational training, and mental health services to American veterans.

In conjunction with its annual appeal, the group will send a colorful, patriotic “Honor Card” with a personalized message to a veteran, current service member, or family member of a fallen hero with every donation.
