Gary L. Rose of Sacred Heart University will offer his thoughts regarding the tumultuous 2016 presidential election at the Wilton Democratic Town Committee’s annual awards breakfast Saturday, April 2, at Trackside. His talk is the subject of a current manuscript, Haywire: The Politics of the 2016  Presidential Contest.

He will be joined by another special guest, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, ranking Democrat on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Blumenthal, who announced he will attend the breakfast, also serves on the Senate Armed Services, Judiciary and Commerce committees.

A political science professor for nearly four decades, Rose has published 11 books on various political subjects, including the American presidency, Supreme Court impact, Connecticut government, and constitutional law. In 2011 he was named Connecticut Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

The breakfast, which takes place from 9 to 11, honors Carole Young-Kleinfeld as Outstanding Democrat and Dick DuBow for Lifetime Achievement of service to the community.

Young-Kleinfeld is Wilton’s Democratic registrar of voters, but has also served as deputy registrar and Area 9 Cable Council Representative. She is also a member of the Wilton League of Women Voters.

Dubow, a selectman, has also served on the Wilton Board of Education and Board of Finance, in addition to chairing the Committee of 70 that worked on a long-range plan for building utilization in town.

The event is open to the public with early bird  tickets at $30 ($40 at the door) for adults and $5 for those 6-18 years. To make payment in advance, visit wiltondems.org, or make checks payable to the Wilton DTC, and mail to Wilton DTC, PO Box 103, Wilton, CT 06897.
