Lula  Matthaei , graphic artist, computer technician, dancer and Afro-Cuban percussionist, of Wilton. Conn., died on Jan. 27, 2016, after a long, difficult and brave battle with throat cancer. Born on May 8, 1960 in New York City, Lula, beloved daughter, niece, sister and thoughtful and devoted friend, attended The Chapin School and Marymount College in New York City  and later, Norwalk Community College, in Connecticut.

She studied dance with Doris Humphrey, and later, enjoyed dancing with the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. Lula was a friend to many animals over the years, having had her own horses, a pig, a skunk and five Nubian goats who travelled with her to California, New Mexico and later to the Florida keys.

Lula was a compassionate animal wildlife rescuer and rehabilitator who even worked with raptors when she lived in New Mexico.

There will be a Remembering Lula gathering for family and friends in Connecticut later this spring.
