After running a red light at the intersection of Danbury Road and School Street around 4 in the morning Jan. 23, Michael Papp, 24, of 3 Poplar Street, Norwalk, was charged with DUI.

After police stopped Papp’s 2007 Ford Expedition, which had been westbound on School Street, the smell of alcohol was evident.

Papp was asked to perform a field sobriety test, which he did not perform adequately, and thus was taken into custody. Prior to arresting Papp, police inventoried the contents of the Ford and found a glass smoking pipe and approximately 0.10 ounces of suspected marijuana in the center console.

At police headquarters, a breath test showed Papp’s blood alcohol concentration at 0.0411. The legal limit is 0.08. He submitted to a urine test, the toxicology results of which are pending, police said.

Papp was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to obey a traffic signal, and failure to carry proof of insurance. He was released on a promise to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Feb. 2.

According to police, hazardous storm conditions Jan. 23 that began around the time Papp’s car was stopped did not contribute to his moving violation. “The road was dry,”they said.
