John E. Warner Jr.

John E. Warner Jr.

John Entz Warner Jr., of New Canaan, Conn., died peacefully at Norwalk Hospital on Jan. 29, 2016.

Known as Jack, he was born Dec. 16, 1931, in Old Greenwich, Conn., son of John E. and Catherine G. Warner. He attended Greenwich schools and Bridgeport University.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years, stationed in Korea. After the war he partnered with his father in John E. Warner & Son, building and developing many roads and houses in Greenwich, Darien and New Canaan. Their dream was to one day build a golf course and Jack Senior always wanted to “build a club in the country, not a country club.”

After spotting the old Loudon Searcrest Dairy farm in 1958, they designed and built Silvermine Golf Club. Three years later they added Grey Hollow, an additional nine holes in Wilton after acquiring the Wilson Dairy Farm property.

In addition to his wife Barbara Orell Warner of 60 years, Warner is survived by his three sons, John Entz Warner lll and wife Cynthia Walter Warner of Ashville, N.Y., Peter Gilbert Warner of New Canaan, and Thomas Morley Warner of New Canaan, his grandchildren: John Entz Warner lV and wife Dr. Brianne Teaboldt of Philadelphia, Pa.; Caitlin Avery Warner Esq. and husband Ian James Lent of Washington, D.C., and Jeffrey Walter Warner of Washington, D.C. He is also survived by a sister, Catherine Warner Zucco of Wilton, and a brother, William Arthur Warner of Bonita Springs, Fla.

The family will hold a private ceremony in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Soundkeeper, PO Box 4058, Norwalk, CT 06855.
