Its three previous FCIAC matches had all been decided by three points or less.
So it wasn’t surprising that the Wilton High wrestling team found itself in another close battle on Wednesday at home, with one match again swinging the outcome either way.
As in last week’s three-point loss to Norwalk, the Warriors won more of the matches that were wrestled (five to four), but lost the overall match to Ridgefield, 36-33, as they had one more forfeit than the Tigers.
Wilton (5-11) got big wins against strong opponents at 106 pounds, where Travis Longo edge Ben Smart, 4-3; and at 120 pounds, where Nick Rende beat Jesse Walker, 5-4, to improve to 21-1 on the season.
Quinn Reedy won a 7-3 decision over Jared Donnelly at 138 pounds.
Matt Beck bumped up a weight class to 162 pounds and pinned a heavier opponent in the second period.
At 285 pounds, Tyler Warren pinned Michael Hamilton for his first pin of the season.
Winning by forfeit were Finn McGovern (113 pounds) and Zach Zeyher (170). It was Zeyher’s 20th win of the season.
Both teams will compete on Saturday at the annual Ridgefield Challenge tournament.
