A Danbury Road driver was found intoxicated on Jan. 11 around 10 p.m. after she was stopped for making a turn too wide and almost hitting a Wilton patrol cruiser.

Wendy Fitzgerald, 65, of 4 Daskams Lane, Norwalk, was turning right onto Danbury Road from Wolfpit Road in her 2013 Toyota Prius. She turned too wide and was unable to keep her car in the proper lane.

According to police, the turn was so wide that Fitzgerald’s Toyota almost struck the investigating officer’s patrol cruiser, which had been stationary in the left-turn lane on Danbury Road at that intersection, waiting to turn onto Wolfpit Road.

Fitzgerald continued south and was ultimately stopped at the intersection of Danbury Road and Westport Road. She was given a field sobriety test, which she did not perform to standard, and was breath-tested, showing a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.1633. The legal limit is 0.08.

Fitzgerald was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and failing to drive in the proper lane. She was released on a promise to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Jan. 28.
