Wilton Youth Wrestling, now in its sixth season, had a highly successful performance on Sunday at the Danbury Youth Wrestling tournament.
The team was paced by the Caratazzolo brothers, Lorenzo (fourth grade) and Dominic (eighth grade), who both won their weight classes by being undefeated on the day.
Lorenzo began the day with a 30-second fall over his Mahopac opponent and finished with a technical fall (12-point differential) over his Derby opponent.
Dominic pinned opponents from Trumbull and New Canaan and clinched the gold medal with a dominating 8-2 win over a Ridgefield opponent.
In addition, Max Mannino, a seventh grader and returning state place winner, took gold with wins over wrestlers from Glastonbury and East Hartford.
Dan McGuire (a Weston resident wrestling for Wilton), Griffin Morris, Caleb Forland, Harrison Forland, and Max Mannino all finished the day with 2-1 records to earn silver medals.
Eighth grader McGuire recorded pins over Fairfield and East Hartford opponents, while Morris, another returning state place winner, recorded wins over wrestlers from Danbury and Blue Wave of Long Island.
Caleb Forland recorded first-period falls over two Ridgefield wrestlers, while younger brother Harrison recorded wins over opponents from Beast (Danbury) and Milford.
On Saturday, eight of Wilton’s newer wrestlers competed in the John Jay novice event, and all wrestlers won matches, including Ryan Siegel, Greg Flynn, Michael Arbisi, Liam Pearsall, Cole Siegel, Raymond Ferranti, and CJ Young.
Wilton Youth Wrestling returns to action this Sunday at Zeoli Fieldhouse, where it hosts the Warrior Youth Wrestling Classic from 9 to 4.
