Small business group endorses Boucher

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), which says it is the leading small business association both in Connecticut and the country, has endorsed State Senator Toni Boucher (R-26).

“Your voting record over the last two legislative sessions on key issues important to small business indicated that you will continue to be committed to the needs of thousands of Main Street small businesses and their employees in Connecticut when you are re-elected to serve in Hartford,” the association said in a statement to Ms. Boucher.

In response, Ms. Boucher said, “I firmly believe that if we are to restore Connecticut to the vital, thriving state we once were, we must create an environment where businesses can grow and create jobs so that families can prosper. As the founder and former owner of a small business myself, I understand that what these people need is for our government to reduce the current tax burdens and regulations that make it so difficult for them to operate in the state. I remain committed to fighting for legislation that will do that.”

Lavielle applauds state grant

State Rep Gail Lavielle (R-143) applauded the $425,000 Main Street Investment Fund Grant awarded by the state to Wilton last week.

The town will use the money to improve sidewalks in Wilton Center.

“This is wonderful news for Wilton,” Ms. Lavielle said. “Creating the most welcoming, accessible, and safest surroundings for businesses and customers in our town center is important for the development of our local economy. We should be very proud of the work our town leaders and staff have done to prepare and submit this grant application. It’s a win for everyone in town,” she said.

Democrats see endorsement deficit

Wilton Democrats are pointing out that CT Voters for Gun Safety, a statewide independent organization that supports strong Connecticut gun laws, has not endorsed State Rep. Gail Lavielle (R-143) for re-election.

Wilton Democratic Town Committee Chair Thomas Dec said Ms. Lavielle had supported gun interests and received a “pro-gun rating by the NRA two years ago.”

A press release said, “Ms. Lavielle defends the right to own high-capacity magazines and called the landmark Sandy Hook guns laws ‘not a solution.’”

Her opponent, Keith Rodgerson of Wilton, pledged to be “a champion in the state legislature for responsible gun control.”
