Francis F. Keating

Francis F. “Frank” Keating, died peacefully at home in Farmington, on Sept. 27, 2014, in his 92nd year, with all his family at his side. Beloved husband for 66 years of Margaret Mary “Peggy” (née Garner).

Dear father of Kathleen (Rob Gourlay, deceased), Vancouver, BC; Judith Kennedy (Martin), Wheaton, IL; John (Marilyn), Ridgefield; Carol, Whitefish Bay, WI; Peter, Charlestown, RI; Paul, Fairfield; Mary McCabe (John), Hilliard, OH. Grandfather and great-grandfather to 23.

Frank was one of 7 children born in Fergus, Ontario to Frederick and Marguerite (Cushing) Keating. They were a strong family who, like so many others, faced difficult times. He is predeceased by his brother Jack and sisters Marg, Anne, Mary and Theresa; survived by his brother Joe.

Frank attended St. Jerome’s College in Kitchener, Ontario; received his BA from Waterloo College, and his MBA from the University of Western Ontario. His lifelong career in the electrical signaling industry began with 16 years at Edwards of Canada in Owen Sound, Ontario. In 1968 he and Peggy, with their five younger children, moved to Wilton, when he took a position with Edwards Inc., Norwalk. He was later promoted to Vice-Pres., Sales and Marketing.

In 1980 he and Peggy moved to Farmington, and Frank served 8 years as National Sales and Marketing Manager for Wiremold Co., West Hartford. He was a respected member of the National Association of Electrical Distributors in both Canada and the USA.

For many years Frank was an active member of both the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus. During their 18 years in Owen Sound and while in Wilton and Farmington, Frank and Peggy formed strong, lasting friendships. After retirement, he and Peggy enjoyed golfing and volunteering in their community, as they had always done. He worked with Services for the Elderly, driving patients to appointments and delivering Meals on Wheels. His legacy to his children is his example of hard work, kindness, respect for all others, and unwavering love for their mother. He showed all of us how to live life with absolute integrity, rich with fun, enduring friendships, and devotion to family. And he inspired us with the grace and dignity with which he met every challenge and hardship, in particular during his final months with us.
