To the Editors:
It was with great sadness that we learned that Al Nickel, our dear friend and esteemed colleague on the Board of Directors, died unexpectedly on Nov. 21.
Al’s compassion, empathy and love of life, family and community will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Al was the first to congratulate a friend or colleague on a success or celebratory event, and always with heartfelt warmth and enthusiasm.
For those who were suffering, Al’s kindness and genuine caring never failed to ease the burden. His concern was always for others, not for himself.
The reach of his volunteerism was broad and deep. Al had a singular commitment to community organizations whose missions are to improve lives. His vision and leadership at Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County has enabled us to bring our caring services to thousands of individuals and families facing the hardship of illness. We will be forever grateful to Al for his generosity and dedication to our Agency.
At Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County, we will continue to honor Al as a model of goodness and benevolence for all humanity. We extend our deepest condolences to Dana, Olivia, Grace and all the members of Nickel family, at this extraordinarily sad and difficult time.
