History was brought to life at Our Lady of Fatima School in Wilton when sixth, seventh and eighth graders displayed their work in a multi-sensory Living Museum exhibit on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

The exhibit was the culmination of the school’s new middle school project, which melds English and language arts with social studies.

“This project and event provide the children with an opportunity to experience a ‘day in the life’ of an historical figure and allow each student to become immersed in their respective time period of study,” said social studies teacher Caitlin Schneider.

For the project, students selected historical individuals from assigned time periods and brought them to life.

Sixth graders selected individuals from Egyptian history, seventh graders selected historical figures from early American history, and eighth graders selected individuals from the Civil War period.

At the Living Museum, students delivered speeches, wore costumes and prepared presentation posters with facts, photos and timelines related to the lives of their selected figures.

“From an English/ELA perspective,” said English/ELA teacher Danielle Mancuso, “the project requires the students to work with multiple sources, prepare MLA cited work and deliver an oral presentation one-on-one to attendees.”

Visitors of the exhibit got the chance to view the presentations and talk with the students to learn about the historical figures.
