Candlelight Concerts will open its 2015-16 season with a performance by the world-renowned Takács Quartet Sunday, Sept. 27, 4 p.m., at the Wilton Congregational Church on Ridgefield Road.

The program will feature Haydn’s String Quartet op. 74 no. 1, Shostakovich’s String Quartet no. 3, and Dvorak’s String Quartet op. 105.

The quartet comes to Wilton from a concert in Dartmouth, N.H. and before heading to Birmingham, Ala.

The members of the Takács Quartet are Edward Dusinberre, first violin; Károly Schranz, second violin; Geraldine Walther, viola; and András Fejér, cello. They are Christoffersen Faculty Fellows at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where they have helped to develop a string program with a special emphasis on chamber music, enabling students to work in a nurturing environment designed to help them develop their artistry.

The quartet’s commitment to teaching is enhanced by summer residencies at the Aspen Festival and at the Music Academy of the West, Santa Barbara.Tickets for Sunday’s concert may be purchased at the door for $30. Children 16 and under will be admitted free.
