Beginning next month, the Montessori School in Wilton will offer an Infant-Parent Educational Series, comprised of 10 in-depth and interactive classes that address infant development and the infant-parent relationship.
Designed to benefit expectant parents, parents and babies alike, the series will follow children’s natural tendency to explore the well-prepared environment around them, and introduce parents to the benefits of observing their babies in an intentional way.
The classes will run through the spring and be led by Lisa Fay, early childhood and parent educator certified with the Association Montessori Internationale at the birth-to-three levels.
“Ground-breaking neuroscience shows us how powerful an influence the infant’s environment is to their rational, physical and even spiritual development,” Fay said in a Montessori School press release.
“My life’s work is to deepen my understanding of young children, educate parents about their babies’ capabilities and raise parents’ awareness of ways in which they can help their children realize their enormous potential. We observe together their babies’ exciting development unfold in a classroom perfectly set up for their physical and intellectual needs.”
According to Fay, books can offer some guidance for parents on how to meet the needs of their children, but the work of development belongs to the child alone.
The Montessori School’s hands-on and interactive classes will focus on the importance of movement, language, self-care and independence with sleeping and eating.
The classes are inspired by the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori, an innovator in the field of early childhood education, whose idea was that a child possesses an “absorbent mind” and begins to explore his or her environment with all senses even before birth.
Session 1 begins with orientation on Oct. 8, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Orientation for Session 2 is Jan. 7, 7 to 8 p.m.
Session 3 begins with orientation on March 29, from 7 to 8 p.m.
All classes will be held at the Montessori School, 34 Whipple Road, and there is a $275 fee, which includes orientation, one evening seminar, and eight morning classes.
Registration is required. To participate, call 203-834-0440.
