On Oct. 3 the Riverbrook YMCA, along with the Wilton Riding Club, Silver Spring Country Club and Rolling Hills Country Club will resurrect the Yo Bigelow Tournament, a fund-raising paddle tennis tournament that faded away a decade ago.

Yolande “Yo” Bigelow was a Wilton woman and a “driving force in the paddle scene,” said tournament Co-Chair Beth Kohl. Unfortunately, Bigelow suffered from a brain tumor and died before her time. The tournament was established in her honor.

All of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Riverbrook YMCA’s A.C.E.S. (All Children Experience Summer) program, an inclusion program that helps campers with disabilities to participate in camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, archery, talent shows, arts and crafts, sports and more.

“We’re encouraging paddle players of all levels to participate,” Kohl said.

The price of play is $100 per paddle. Participants are guaranteed to play three matches at the least.

The entry fee covers prizes, player gifts, beer, wine and soft drinks, snacks during play and admission to a casual cocktail party featuring an open bar and hors d’oeuvres at the Riding Club hut during and after the finals.
