The Wilton girls U9 Blue team went undefeated at the 31st Annual Adidas Bernie Ward Labor Day Shootout in Farmington. The popular two-day tournament is ranked the number-one soccer tournament in Connecticut by Adidas, attracting premier and competitive travel teams from multiple states. The girls defeated Farmington (6-0), West Hartford (3-2), Shelton White (6-0) and Shelton Orange (6-1). Wilton Blue makes finals

The Wilton Blue team started the season off strongly at the Adidas Bernie Ward Labor Day Shootout in Farmington. Wilton played four matches over the weekend and made it to the tourney finals.

On Saturday, Wilton battled Suffield to a 0-0 tie and defeated Farmington, 3-2, behind the solid goaltending of Grace Kaplan and Katie Umphred and the stellar defense of Avery Newcomer, Bella Andjelkovic and Abby Kyle. The offense was provided by Lindsay Grandolfo, who scored twice, and Abby Kyle, who netted the third goal in the victory with assists from Ellie Copley and strong support from Ava Marini, Jamie Leventhal and Emily Bukowski.

Then on Sunday, needing a tie or win to make the Finals, Wilton met West Hartford. After a scoreless first half, Wilton’s Megan Hanny broke the deadlock with a goal. Once again, Wilton’s midfield and defense were strong, led by Kathryn Cronin, Meredith Mobyed, Kathleen Lamanna, Akira Nobumoto, and Olivia Rossi. West Hartford was kept off the board until the very end of the game before getting the equalizer.

The 1-1 tie, however, was good enough to get Wilton into the finals against a tough premier squad, the Central CT RUSH, which defeated Wilton, 2-0, to win the title.

Wilton Gold starts season at tourney

Going into its season opener, the Wilton Gold squad was well prepared for the challenges it would face at the Fairfield FAST Tournament. With four games scheduled, the Gold’s game plan was simple: Score goals.

Success came early in game one against FUSA Blue, with Sawyer Pendergast and Mary Scally booting in one goal each. Strong defense by Isabella Schmidt and Taylor Felipe demonstrated that the two squads were evenly matched.

Game two against Darien White was more of the same, as Wilton displayed coordinated offensive moves by Anya Iyer, Morgan Felipe and Caitlin Ongley, and spirited defensive play by Gemma Baer and Ella Savage. But that was not enough to overcome a two-goal deficit.

Game three against New Canaan White and game four against FUSA White were fantastic matches that included intense action at both ends of the field. A single goal by Grace Duvall in each game gave Wilton the early advantage.  And thanks to the goal tending and defensive efforts of Natalie Cronin, Julie Ursitti and Caitlin Allen, both games resulted in ties.

Wilton White at tourney

The Wilton White team attended the John Jay Labor Day Tournament on Saturday, going 1-1-1.

In its first game, Wilton took on a talented and aggressive Scarsdale Celtic team. Caroline Luce, Riley Fitzgerald and Mary Kate Doyle had many saves as goalies. Sadie Klyver, assisted by Ella Breitenbach, scored Wilton’s lone goal.

Wilton’s second game was against Storm WAYS. Addison Dobson had an incredible save in goal, while Emmy Baer was quick to get a shot on goal. Doyle and Lauren Moe scored the tying goals for Wilton.

In its third and final game of the tournament, Wilton defeated Ridgefield. White   dominated the field and got goals from Kaitlyn Sullivan, Madeline Dineen, Sasha Langholm, Jenna Peterson, Luce, and Doyle.

The Wilton boys U10 Blue team had a promising start to the fall soccer season, winning all four of its games at the Fairfield FAST soccer tournament on Sunday. The team began the day beating Newtown Gold 6-0, and then proceeded to beat FUSA Blue One 6-0. The boys followed up with a 4-0 victory over FUSA Blue Two and a hard-fought 3-0 win over Darien White. Wilton Blue second at tourney

On a beautiful Sunday, the Wilton Blue team kicked off its season at the Labor Day FAST Tournament in Fairfield and placed second in its division.

Wilton got off to a slow start, losing to the New York Washingtonville Warriors, 4-0, in the first game.

Wilton pulled together for its second game against FUSA and took charge from the beginning. Sam Gioffre had some nice saves as goalie and was able to keep Fairfield from scoring. Matthew Tabet scored the first goal for Wilton. The second goal showed some nice team work with Luke Barbieri passing to Tabet, who then passed to Matthew Tully, who passed to Conor Lillis for the goal to give Wilton a 2-0 lead. The third goal came on a nice cross from Lillis to Tabet. Wilton’s fourth goal was an assist from Tully to Michael Cooper, and the final goal was a nice pass by Tabet that gave Ryan Leung the opportunity to get by Fairifield’s goalie and secure the 5-0 victory.

Wilton benefited from nice defensive plays by Tommy Lowell, Christian Marroquin, Luke Medalla and Scotty Mills. Jack Dodman had some nice passes, as did Admir Sabovic.

Wilton’s third game was against the Monroe Panthers resulted in a 2-1 triumph behind goals from Dodman (Barbieri assist) and Tabet (Cooper assist).

Wilton’s fourth game was a 3-3 tie against the East Longmeadow (Mass.) Spartans. Gioffre had some impressive saves in goal, while Tabet scored all three Wilton goals.
