Fourteen years ago tomorrow was a day none of us will ever forget.
Millions of words have been written about Sept. 11, 2001 — the tragedy, the victims, the heroes, the politics, the wars, the memorials, and more. We don’t need to write more words here.
What we do need to acknowledge is there will be a remembrance ceremony at 10 tomorrow morning, Sept. 11, 2015, at Wilton Fire Headquarters, 236 Danbury Road. We will remember the Wilton citizens who died and the Wilton emergency responders who raced to Manhattan to help in any way they could.
We will pay tribute to the legacy of all who died in New York, in Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon, as well as those who died later from illnesses suffered as a result of their relentless work in searching for survivors and recovering those who were killed. That legacy is evident in all who choose to help their fellow humans in countless ways and work to lift our society to a higher moral plane.
We will pray for the souls of those we have lost, their families, and for all of us to give us the wisdom and the courage to stand up for what we know is right and just.
Please find some time in your busy day to join those gathered at the fire station tomorrow. In addition to remembering that fateful day, it is an opportunity to meet and thank those who have sworn to protect this community every day.
