James Patrick Billings

James Patrick (Shamus) Billings of Danbury, Conn., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Sept. 1, 2015, at the age of 80. We will miss his twinkling Irish eyes, his unique sense of humor, and his inquisitive, engineering mind.

Jim was born in Stamford, Conn., on Aug. 2, 1935, to James T. Billings of Stamford and Catherine McGovern Billings of Bawnboy, County Cavan, Ireland. He graduated from Stamford High School, where he ran track and danced competitively at Madison Square Garden. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard where he served as an electrician mate 1st class for four years.

He then attended Westchester Community College where he met his wife of 53 years, Betty (Elizabeth Forte). He continued his education nights at BEI, earning his professional engineering license. He worked for the AH Emery Company for many years, and then joined Eaton Corp. of Bethel until his retirement.

He was a very active member of Sacred Heart Church in Georgetown for 39 years. He enjoyed spending his summers at the beach with his family in Cape May, N.J.

He is survived by his wife, two beloved daughters, Deborah Myhill and Denise Pierce, and sons-in-law Eric Myhill and Michael Pierce; three cherished granddaughters, Rebecca Myhill, Abigail Myhill, and Caitlyn Pierce; his sisters Mildred Smith and Patricia Frattaroli, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received Friday, Sept. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown, Conn. A funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Georgetown. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, Fairfield, Conn.
