A series of free writing workshops for survivors of sexual assault is offered at The Center for Sexual Assault in Stamford. They will take place Saturday mornings at 9 on Aug. 22 and 29 and Sept. 5 and 12.

The workshops will be focused on healing from trauma through self-expression. Leading the group will be Dr. Marialena Medrano, a psychologist, poet and nationally certified poetry therapist.

In her private practice, Dr. Medrano has used creative writing as a means to help people reduce stress, cope with pain, and raise their level of emotional well-being. She hopes to help workshop participants confront their trauma and achieve self-understanding through writing. Dr. Medrano will use poetry and literature to assist them in finding ways to voice difficult-to-express emotions. At the end of the series, participants will be enriched by a selection of poems that will serve as a resource in their journey through healing.

On a date yet to be determined, in the sanctuary of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Stamford, the participants will have the opportunity to read their poems and writings.

Space is limited. To register, call Rosie Enyart at 203-487-0658 or email r.enyart@thecenter-ct.org.
