On its way to winning the FCIAC title last week, the Wilton High baseball team defeated Norwalk, 6-1, in a quarterfinal game.
But on Thursday, the Bears exacted revenge in the state tournament and ended Wilton’s memorable season.
Eighth-seed Norwalk scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat ninth-seed Wilton, 6-5, in a Class LL second-round game at City Field in Norwalk.
The Warriors finished the season with a 19-6 record.
Wilton led 4-2 going into the bottom of the sixth. But after one run scored on a walk, Eddie McCabe greeted reliever Sean McEvoy with a three-run double that put the Bears ahead, 6-4.
Wilton got one run back in the top of the seventh as James Meany doubled and Jackson Ward followed with an RBI single. A force-out and a walk gave Wilton two runners on base, and Harry Sabo sent a long fly ball that looked to be headed over the head of Norwalk leftfielder Reid Singewald. But Singewald raced back, dove, and made an outstanding catch for the second out of the inning.
Norwalk reliever Jack Potochney then retired Jason Rothstein on a fly ball to right field to end the game.
The Warriors had scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Paul Sorbo (triple) and Ward (single) had RBI hits in the rally.
Norwalk (17-6) cut its deficit in half with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and then went ahead to stay with its three runs in the sixth.
Trevor Blond was the starter and loser for Wilton, pitching five and two-thirds innings before giving way to McEvoy.
