A number of former Wilton High lacrosse players competed at the collegiate level this spring. Here is a roundup:
Women:
Division I:
Maddie Kratz, Senior, Goalkeeper, Vanderbilt University: Kratz earned All-Big East second-team honors for the Commodores, who finished 7-9 and fell short of making the NCAA tournament. Kratz finished third and fifth in the Big East in saves per game, 7.92, and save percentage, .450, respectively.
Megan Boepple, Sophomore, Attack, Loyola University: Boepple did not feature this season for the Greyhounds after playing eight games as a freshman before an injury ended her season. Minus Boepple, the Greyhounds are having an excellent season, and will face Syracuse in the quarterfinals of the Division I NCAA tournament.
Casey Pearsall, Sophomore, Midfield, University of Notre Dame: Pearsall finished fourth on the team in scoring with 16 goals and 34 points, 10 more than in her freshman year. The Fighting Irish’s season just came to an end with a loss to Northwestern in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Charlotte Noels, Freshman, Attack, Colgate University: Noels made her college debut in a 14-3 win over Columbia in March. The Raiders finished third in the Patriot League and 10-6 overall.
Shannon Quinlan, Freshman, Midfield, James Madison University: Quinlan appeared in three games for the Dukes, and scored her first career goal against Liberty in March. The Dukes finished 15-5 and made the Division I NCAA tournament before losing in the first round to USC.
Division III:
Christine Huidekoper, Senior, Midfield, Franklin and Marshall College: Huidekoper tallied a career-high three goals in 12 games during the regular season for the Diplomats, the Centennial Conference champions.
Sammi Blicht, Junior, Defense, Franklin and Marshall College: Blicht started at defense in all 19 of the games she played in this season for the Diplomats. Franklin and Marshall is currently playing in its ninth Division III tournament in the last 10 years and will play Tufts in the third round. Blicht scored her first career goal this season, and also picked up an assist.
Elizabeth Reda, Junior, Defense, Endicott College: Reda started 16 games for Endicott at defense while setting a career high in groundballs with 20. The Gulls finished 11-6, ending their season with a loss to Roger Williams in the Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals.
Haley Crimmins, Sophomore, Defense, Connecticut College: Crimmins played in nine games at defense and started two for the Camels, who finished 4-11.
Lydia Freliech, Sophomore, Defense, Colorado College: Freliech followed up a strong freshman season with another successful one this year on defense for the Tigers. She appeared in 16 games, and started 14 of them, helping the Tigers finish with a 10-7 record.
Katherine Vincent, Sophomore, Attack, Washington College: Vincent scored 19 goals for the Shorewomen in just seven games before an injury cut her season short. Though they missed out on the Division III NCAA tournament, the Shorewomen had a strong season, finishing 11-5.
Annie Cornbrooks, Freshman, Attack, Connecticut College: Cornbrooks started 13 games for the Camels and scored 11 goals, tied for the most of any freshman on the team.
Hannah Wiltshire, Freshman, Goalkeeper, Tufts University: Wiltshire made 13 appearances and nine starts in the regular season for the Jumbos, who are 16-6 and are currently playing in the Division III NCAA tournament. Wiltshire will meet fellow former Warriors Christine Huidekoper and Sammi Blicht in the third round of the tournament today.
Men:
Division I:
Matt Reyes-Guerra-Dunn, Senior, Midfield, Colgate University: Reyes-Guerra-Dunn featured in 16 games while adding four goals and three assists for the Raiders, who lost in the first round of the Division I NCAA tournament to the University of North Carolina.
Mike Francia, Senior, Attack, University of Michigan: Francia started all but one of the Wolverines’ 13 games this season, and scored 12 goals, tied for fourth most on the team. Francia was also one of six Big Ten Sportsmanship Award Honorees.
Sam Somers, Senior, Goalkeeper, United States Military Academy: Somers started all 17 of Army’s games this season in goal, finishing with a goals against average of 8.25, the 11th best mark in the nation. Somers was also picked in the seventh round of the Major League Lacrosse Draft by the Rochester Rattlers in January.
Connor Devane, Junior, Defense, Quinnipiac University: Devane appeared in all 15 games this season for the Bobcats, who finished 7-8. Devane led the team in groundballs with 52 while also picking up his first career goal against Canisius in April.
Michael Slaughter, Junior, Midfield, Sacred Heart University: Slaughter made 13 appearances off the bench for the Pioneers, who ended the season with a record of 6-7.
Michael Burns, Sophomore, Midfield, Richmond University: Burns appeared in 16 games and started two for the Spiders. Richmond fell one game short of reaching the Division I NCAA tournament after losing to High Point University in double overtime in the Southern Conference Championship final.
Henry Lee, Sophomore, Midfield, Boston University: Lee played in every one of the Terriers’ 14 games this season, setting a career high in groundballs with nine. In their second season as a Division I program, the Terriers finished 6-8.
Brandon Devane, Freshman, Attack, Bryant University: Devane didn’t make an appearance in his freshman season for the Bulldogs, who won the Northeast Conference championship before falling to Marist in the First Four of the Division I NCAA tournament.
Ted Ottens, Freshman, Midfield, Brown University: Ottens scored twice and picked up an assist for the Brown Bears. Ottens won 32 of 60 faceoffs this season, including 11 of 15 against Manhattan in March. Brown fell to Denver in the first round of the Division I NCAA tournament.
Division III:
Mike Barnett, Senior, Attack, Eastern Connecticut State University: Barnett’s last season of college lacrosse was his best, as he set a career high in goals with 17, and points with 28. Barnett finished second in both categories for the Warriors, who had a record of 8-7.
Pat Holland, Senior, Defense, Roger Williams University: Holland started all 18 of the Hawks’ games this season at defense, and registered four goals and four assists while finishing third on the team in groundballs with 70.
Connor Melillo, Senior, Defense, Franklin and Marshall College: Melillo started 16 games for the Diplomats at defense, leading the team in groundballs with 60. Melillo also picked up an assist for the 7-9 Diplomats.
Mike Serpa, Senior, Midfield, Dickinson College: Serpa made 11 appearances this season for Dickinson, recording one goal and one assist. Serpa also scooped 17 groundballs for the Red Devils, who finished 7-9.
Scott Thomson, Senior, Defense, Eastern Connecticut State University: Thomson played in all 15 of the Warriors’ games in his third year at Eastern Connecticut State University after spending his freshman year at the University of Delaware. Thomson also started 14 games and picked up 11 groundballs for the Warriors.
Matt Basile, Junior, Defense, Oberlin College: Basile started all 15 of Oberlin’s games, scooping up 43 groundballs for the Yeomen, the third most on the team.
Sean Carroll, Junior, Midfield, Middlebury College: Carroll set a career high in games played (19), goals (21), and points (24), helping the Panthers to a 13-6 record. Middlebury knocked off Montclair State before falling to Amherst in the second round of the Division III NCAA tournament.
Graham Parsons, Junior, Defense, Dickinson College: Parsons appeared in all 16 of the Red Devils’ games this season while starting 8 of them. He was also tied for fourth on the team in groundballs with 35.
Nick Wells, Sophomore, Defense, Franklin and Marshall College: Wells caused 24 turnovers in 15 games for Franklin and Marshall this season, the second most on the team behind fellow former Warrior Connor Melillo.
Will Garbus, Freshman, Midfield, Ohio Wesleyan University: Garbus played in six games for the Battling Bishops and scored his first collegiate goal against Hiram in March. The Battling Bishops were undefeated before losing to Gettysburg in the quarterfinals of the Division III NCAA tournament.
Thomas Hayes, Freshman, Midfield, Denison University: Hayes came off the bench in four games for the Big Red, scoring his first career goal against Wabash College in April. The Big Red finished 13-4 and came close to knocking off then-undefeated Ohio Wesleyan in the North Coast Athletic Conference championship game before losing in overtime.
Brian Lafond, Freshman, Midfield, Muhlenberg College: Lafond made appearances against Centenary College and Lycoming College for the Mules, who finished 3-10.
Max Maudsley, Freshman, Midfield, United States Merchant Marine Academy: Maudsley tallied two goals in his freshman season for the Mariners, who finished 7-7. The Mariners ended the season strongly, winning their last three games.
Josh Worley, Freshman, Goalkeeper, Skidmore University: Worley saw nearly nine minutes of action in goal across two games for Skidmore. Worley made his first collegiate save against Williams in his college debut in March. The Thoroughbreds finished 5-10.
