Visitors to the Connecticut Farmland Trust picnic at Millstone Farm on Sunday, Aug. 24, chat around the fire pit with owner Betsy Fink, fourth from left. After sandwiches and a Millstone tomato salad, Ms. Fink lead a tour of the gardens and livestock on the farm with head farmer Annie Farrell. Since its inception 12 years ago, the trust has permanently saved 2,600 acres of farmland in the state and helped to protect 1,000 more. Trust Board President Mike Fotos said, ‘The Finks’ hospitality created a wonderful opportunity to learn about sustainable agriculture in Connecticut. Farm tours like this one give our members a better understanding of the importance of farming and land conservation.’ Information: ctfarmland.org.
