The Wilton Conservation Commission invites all citizens to usher in the spring season by participating in the annual Townwide Community Cleanup on Saturday, March 28, from 9 to noon.

Melting snow is revealing unsightly litter and the commission has planned the cleanup before leaves emerge and town roads and pathways are still clear and views unobstructed.

Over the past three years approximately 80 people have consistently gathered at the Town Green on a Saturday morning, picked up garbage bags and work gloves, and spread out around town to pick up litter along roads and the banks of the Norwalk River. Each year volunteers fill an entire Dumpster with the litter they collect in three hours time.

Individuals and organizations are invited to come to the Town Green on March 28 and choose from a list of sites that are in desperate need of attention. Wilton’s largest watercourse, the Norwalk River, is always in need of attention as litter accumulates along its river banks. Work gloves, garbage bags and a Dumpster will be available at the gazebo.

Pinocchio’s Pizza is once again supporting the cleanup effort by donating vouchers for a free slice of cheese pizza for all volunteers.

Anyone interested in volunteering or organizing a group of volunteers may call the conservation commission Office at 203-563-0180 for further information or just stop by the Town Green at 9 on Saturday morning.
