Wilton boys third at Class L track meet

With Spencer Brown leading the way, the Wilton High boys indoor track and field team finished third at the Class L state championship meet Friday in New Haven.

The Warriors had 54 points to finish behind only Windsor (85 points) and Darien (66 points).

Brown supplied the lone Wilton victory, as he placed first in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:37.42. He also added a third-place finish in the 1,600 with a time of 4:22.58.

Colin Hussey was second in the pole vault (12’6″) and Hunter Shipp was second in the shot put (50’10.5″).

Calvin Wardle also scored points in the pole vault, placing fourth (12’0″).

Wilton’s remaining points came from its relay teams. Aaron Breene, William Glynn, Justin Hoelzl and Peter Hermann finished second in the 4×800 relay (8:20.74); Hussey, Daniel Marino, Hermann and Hoelzl were third in the sprint medley relay (3:46.50); and Breene, Hermann, Marino and Hoelzl placed fourth in the 4×400 relay (3:38.68).

Relays were also a strength for the Wilton girls team, which finished ninth with 22 points.

Twelve of those points were supplied by third-place finishes from the 4×200 relay of Bria Albanese, Melissa Luse, Jillian Lauricella and Laine Parsons (1:51.80), and the 4×400 relay of Lauricella, Luse, Paisley Eagan and Parsons (4:15.15).

Mary Lynch was third in the 3,200 (11:36.09), and Luse finished fourth in the 300 (43.64).

Wilbur Cross won the girls team title with 76 points. Darien was second with 56 points.
